NOAA has been calling for 'rain showers' and 'sprinkles'. What we are experiencing now and have been all summer, is driving, pounding, concrete-busting torrential rain backed by flower-flattening winds! This is a far cry from a 'sprinkle' or wide-spread rainstorm.

Barometer 30.0, temperature 54 degrees. Ceiling is about 100' in dense rain fog, visibility 4 miles with a dense rain fog bank over the Alatna Hills. Looking north into the Alatna Valley, I cannot see the mountain behind the lodge or the west ridge. Southeast winds at 15 knots.

Current conditions have deteriorated. Ceiling is lost in dense rain fog, visibility is 3 miles in dense rain fog. It has been constantly raining since 11pm last night. SE winds at 12 knots, gusting to 15.
As of 12:24P NOAA posted a small stream flooding advisory for the upper Noatak, Kobuk and Alatna River basins. We have water cascading down the west ridge and the Tobuk River inlet to Iniakuk Lake has risen considerably.

Barometer 30.1, temperature 56 degrees. Ceiling 1000 in dense rain fog, visibility 10 miles but up and down. This is a very strong system that pushed through about 11p yesterday and roared with high winds and pouring rain all night. Winds have abated somewhat, but it's still raining hard. Southeast winds at 10 knots, gusting to 30 knots.
