There is a lot of moisture in the air, it's likely as it gets later fog will gather over Iniakuk Lake.

NOAA has posted a flood advisory until 11:30P tonight.

Barometer 30.0, temperature 54 degrees. Ceiling is about 100' in dense rain fog, visibility 4 miles with a dense rain fog bank over the Alatna Hills. Looking north into the Alatna Valley, I cannot see the mountain behind the lodge or the west ridge. Southeast winds at 15 knots.

It rained and blew hard yesterday and last night.

Update: Iniakuk Lake Weather, Brooks Range, Alaska

Current conditions have deteriorated. Ceiling is lost in dense rain fog, visibility is 3 miles in dense rain fog. It has been constantly raining since 11pm last night. SE winds at 12 knots, gusting to 15.

As of  12:24P NOAA posted a small stream flooding advisory for the upper Noatak, Kobuk and Alatna River basins. We have water cascading down the west ridge and the Tobuk River inlet to Iniakuk Lake has risen considerably.

This is a very strong system that pushed through about 11p yesterday and roared with high winds and pouring rain all night. Winds have abated somewhat, but it's still raining hard. Current conditions: Rapidly improving. Both east and west ridge overlooking Iniakuk Lake are clear of morning fog. Looking north I can see the mountain clearly, looking south I can see the Alatna Hills and beyond. A few patches of morning fog remain in the Alatna Valley but will burn off shortly. Winds are calm.

At 11:22p last night, a T-storm passed through with a thunderclap so close and intense it caused the window in my sleeping house to concuss. It was like an explosion.

Last evening T-storms and rain passed through, then at 1:00a torrential rain with absolutely no wind slowly moved through the Alatna Valley completely soaking everything.

Another full day was devoted to repositioning our Hughesnet Satellite Dish and hopefully the signal strength will hold.

Barometer 30.0, temperature a chilly 26 degrees. Ceiling 6,000' scattered, visibility 10 miles. Slight north wind.

It was 80 degrees and sweltering when we flew in on June 9 so the temps have changed considerably. We had 2 days of much-needed rain, the morning starts out cool as it is now and then a perfect day unfolds. Trumpeter Swans are in Pirate's Cove, seagulls on the spit out front, sipping freshly ground coffee, life is good.

We took a trip around Iniakuk Lake yesterday to survey the wildfire damage. I was stunned. Somehow we were spared while 85% of the east ridge was not. We do not overlook burned out ruin. Anywhere else on the lake, that's all you see.

We are closing down Iniakuk Lodge today and flying back to Fairbanks on Monday. It's been a summer to remember, for sure. Iniakuk Lake Fire 320 is still smoldering in places. We'll see what 2017 brings.

BLM AKFS flew out yesterday in their helicopter to pick up the point protection - pumps, hoses and sprinklers. There is one stubborn fire puffing away, but for the most part Iniakuk Lake Fire 320 for 2016 is out. Iniakuk Fire Update: The SE wind continues to blow, fires continue to crawl ever closer. BLM AKFS put up a weather station close by to keep an eye on conditions here. The last helicopter left yesterday so we're on our own to watch the fires.

Iniakuk Fire Update: The last firefighters pulled out yesterday due to a persistent bear in their camp and we felt we could watch the fire and report to dispatch if it starts to run. Yesterday, with high SE winds and no rain, there was significant torching. Rain please.

Iniakuk Fire Update: East ridge fires continue to creep and torch, over 35,000 acres have burned since June 25, with a cost so far in excess of $1.3 million. The fire is far from out.
